Seed Library Support

We are pleased to announce that the LIRSC is working in conjunction with area public libraries to build and sustain seed libraries to benefit local gardeners and farmers.

Healthy communities, whether it supports books or seeds, rely and communicate within a shared and evolving network. Simply put, working together to support each other is critical for future of biodiversity.

Expert support by professionals includes: classes on beginner seed saving, seed saving demonstrations, seed donations to help jump start their library, and expert advice on maintaining a healthy seed stock.

Classes and workshops are given by members of the LIRSC.  Members include master gardeners, farmers, seed companies and plant breeders.  Each class will focus on basic steps needed to save seeds from planning what to save, starting the seeds, harvesting, cleaning and storage.

The classes are a guide to help newcomers to seed saving and to create a supportive community of seed savers. In return, participants are encouraged to continually donate some of their saved seed to the seed library.
